PRESENTER BIO
Nicole Besemer is a marine biologist whose work focuses primarily on South Florida and Caribbean ecosystem management and conservation. With the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory Coral Program, Nicole serves as the Coral Program Lab Manager and National Coral Reef Monitoring Program (NCRMP)’s Caribbean Climate Operations Coordinator. Her current work focuses on the implementation of the Climate Monitoring Component of NCRMP, including the planning and operation of associated fieldwork and research trips, as well as data analysis related to how ocean acidification and global warming are affecting coral reef communities in the Atlantic and Caribbean. Prior to this, Nicole’s research efforts included invasive species management, endangered sea turtle conservation and monitoring impacts of Everglades restoration efforts on Biscayne Bay. Nicole holds a Master of Professional Science in Tropical Marine Ecosystem Management from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science and Biology from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.
Ocean Expert Exchange is a live educational webinar series featuring experts in marine science and technology, many of whom have participated in expeditions onboard R/V ANGARI. The 30-minute live events welcome audiences of all ages and include a presentation on the speaker’s area of expertise followed by Q&A with participants. The series is co-hosted by ANGARI Foundation and the University of Florida Thompson Earth Systems Institute’s Scientist in Every Florida School program.
