ANGARI Foundation raised more than $100,000, a new record, for marine science research and education at its Annual Celebration on Saturday, April 5. Guests gathered at the North Palm Beach waterfront restaurant Belle’s, located in the heart of Safe Harbor Old Port Cove, to toast ANGARI reaching a milestone 100 expeditions.

Public Called to Participate in ANGARI Foundation’s 13th Lagoon Drift Card Experiment
West Palm Beach, Fla. (April 2, 2025) – ANGARI Foundation is inviting the public to help take part in their 13th Lake Worth Lagoon Drift Card Study experiment. On Monday, April 14 at 12:45 p.m., the Foundation released small, bright pink, eco-friendly wooden drift cards from seven different sites to track water movement and pollutants in the Lake Worth Lagoon, the Intracoastal Waterway, and Palm Beach County waters.
Members of the public are encouraged to take to shorelines in the region to recover and report the eco-friendly, degradable wooden cards that may be found floating or washed ashore. The drift cards are 4-by-6-inch, bright pink, and have been decorated by community members, including students from Conniston Middle School, Independence Middle School, Palm Beach Day Academy, and The Benjamin School. Drift cards have also been decorated during Nature Fest at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park.
Citizen scientists are relied on to recover the drift cards, reporting the specific location, date, and time found, and taking a photo of both sides of the card and emailing it to [email protected].
ANGARI Foundation’s Lake Worth Lagoon Drift Card Study partners include Friends of Manatee Lagoon, Friends of Palm Beach, Independence Middle School, Manatee Lagoon, Palm Beach Day Academy, The Benjamin School, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 5-2, and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 5-4. Staff and members from these organizations will assist with deploying drift cards. After the coordinated release from seven different sites, the cards will float on the water’s surface and be carried by local currents and tides.
During prior experiments, drift cards have been reported as far north as New Smyrna Beach, and as far south as the Hillsboro Inlet. Historically, drift card recovery rates for the study have been high. ANGARI Foundation and its partners use this project as a tool to engage the community in discussions on human environmental impacts, such as plastic pollution and marine debris. It also tracks water and potential pollution movement in local waterways.
